What to Expect
Halcyon has made a name for itself in New York for supplying costumes for Broadway plays such as: "The Diary of Anne Frank" and "You Can't Take It With You." The clothes come from customers who sell to the store; the owner even makes house calls or attic calls and takes the clothing in its natural state (dirty). The piece will be washed, sun-dried or dry cleaned and repaired before it is put on display. The clothes on the main floor are arranged with plenty of room for browsing. There are racks of satin nightgowns, kimonos, fur coats, evening coats; day dresses and cocktail dresses from the '20s to '60s; silk scarves, sportswear from the '50s, and many hats from the '20s to the '60s.

A velvet evening coat from the 1930s for $90; a '50s fur coat for $55; a men's leather jacket from the '60s for $50-$90; or a '70s outfit for $20-plus.

Halycon is not only in a great location, but as soon as you walk into the door it gives off an incredible vibe. You are greated by two beautiful dogs, Winston and Olive, who are almost as excited to see you as their owner (as well as the stores owne), Connie. The clothes are extroadinarly beautiful, not to mention in great condition, and very reasonably priced. The most intriguing however, was the assortment of beautiful jewelry which i was fortunate enough to find a couple of unique items to purchase. Once you step into the store it will be impossible to spend less than a half hour in there just browsing through everything, and it is almost certain you will purchase something. If nothing else, at least visit the store to experience a trip in time, and say hello to the owner. Her knowledge on everything vintage will astonish you.

Yeah Connie!!! After 5 years of traveling the country and searching for costumes, we discovered that the best of the best is right in our back yard. We have worn Halcyon clothes in both our movies and at virtually every performance we do. The clothes are the best quality, completly accurate and just a fantastic selection. Connie is amoung the most knowledgeable and by far the most helpful store ownwers we have met, and Winston is a real treat too. If you miss Haclcyon you missed the best!!
