warm bottle beer. I've been numerous times...always enjoyed my experience...until last night. I was served a warm beer....tragedy! I rarely return anything but....I'm not drinking warm beer. Our server made me feel like a complete complaining pain in the behind. I didn't appreciate the attitude. Plenty of people looking for work...do something else when you're burned out. Make room for a pleasant person who makes the experience enjoyable.
My Favorite Richmond Bar. The Commercial Taphouse was the first bar I ever went to in Richmond, and it was love at first sight. The interior is dark and intimate, echoing a pub that you might find in some sleepy English town. The service is always great, as the staff is very personable and knowledgeable about the beers offered. And let's talk about the beers. There is a beer menu with one side displaying a rotating selection of excellent and diverse draft beers, which usually include several seasonal selections, all of which are offered in 3 or 4 different sizes. The other side of the menu displays an equally educated selection of bottled beers. Don't know what you want to pick? Ask for a sample of any of the draft beers and they will give you a tasting size glass of your brew choice. The food is also consistently good, with fairly typical bar fare (burgers, fish and chips, pizza), and nightly specials. My favorite regular menu item would have to be the Rice & Beans: a heaping serving of black beans and rice, with a generous serving of sauteed vegetables and a side of salsa. If you are a fan of trying interesting and delicious beer, or if you just want to go to a great neighborhood bar, try the Commercial Taphouse & Grill.
Great for a pint and hanging with friends. Great selection of beers on tap (15 or so total) plus a nice selection of bottled beers to choose from. Some of the best wings in Richmond and the Pizza Du Jour always deserves a try. The pineapple, brie, chicken sandwich is recommended too. Staff is simply fantastic!!
Echoing the great jazz legend Miles Davis, the Sunday night jazz band is whomever shows up..
The Scene
Their name? Well, they don't really have one. Cozy, dark and smoky (a lot of dark wood and red), Richmond's tragically hip gather at one of its most popular microbrewerys. Due to the club's limited sizeeven without the band assembled and on a Sunday nightspace is at a premium. It's not unheard of for large groups to arrive and have to wait up to 20 minutes for enough people to exit so they can gain admittance.
The Crowd
Both older and younger crowds wander in wearing an array of attire. Be warned, however, the in crowd wears as much black as possible. Stay alert for occasional sightings of members of Richmond's favorite sons, Car Bomb Inc.
