ROACHES. I USE TO LOVE THIS PLACE WHEN I FIRST MOVED DOWN HERE UNTIL ONE DAY I WAS WAITING IN LINE FOR MY FOOD AND SPOTTED A BIG ROACH CLIMBING THE SIDE OF THE WALL
The best stew chicken I've had so far. I visit this place frequently and am never disappointed with my food. My favorite is the stew chicken because their sauce is just great. I have been to Caribean Mingles on Main... and they can't touch Jamaica House's recipe. I also love their rum cake. This place is small so its better to call in your order and pick it up prior to 12:15 during the weekdays or just wait for the lunch rush to be over.
Island spice, reggae rhythms and a true flair for Jamaican food: three reasons to overlook the dingy digs..
The Scene
Get blasted by the boom box reggae sounds the minute you walk in the door of this Broad Street hole-in-the wall. Don't expect frills--with only five small tables and a huge takeout business, the speedy staff manages to juggle it all with authentic Island smiles.
The Food
Get past the dreary digs and go strictly for the food. While waiting for your order, peek back into the kitchen at the simmering pots of authentic West Indian foods such as stew beef, curried goat, ox tails, jerk chicken and red snapper fish ($5-$7 range). Starchy Jamaican peas and rice medley and a side of marinated cabbage serve as sides. Just enough grease soaks through the brown bag to make things interesting.
