love that ginger root tea. This small restaurant serves up some great food. I have only been disappointed once when I asked to add some spice to my fish. I was given a peppery paste (i figured it would be really hot) that I stuck my fork in and lightly rubbed over my fish. Can u say 4 alarm blaze???!!! I'm not sure what kind of peppers they were ..maybe scotch bonnets (definitely hotter than jalepenos). It was so bad I couldn't eat the rest of my food. But that was my fault for asking for some spice. Other than that ..the food was great. They have a good day variety on the buffet with vegetables, curry/jerk chicken, plaintains, corn bread, ox tails....all yummy. I don't like the fact that you pay by weight of the food...but that does help your eyes from getting bigger than your stomach and your pocket.

Spicy stews soak up the ethnic ambiance at this West African eatery.. The Scene
Plantains serve as deal makers and breakers at Richmond's first West African restaurant--they're a unique twist to the city's typical lunchtime fare. A colorful Liberian wall mural, African printed fabrics, candles and bits of sculpture set the mood for casual dining. Hit the restaurant at night for once-a-month live music. One caveat: understaffing presents a problem.

The Food
Owner/chef Ida Daniels brings a rich cultural cooking heritage from her native Liberia. Vegetable gumbo, jerk salmon cakes or chicken, smoked turkey, spicy collards, Africque kebobs, jollof rice, fried plantains, cornbread and numerous spicy stews pack a culinary wallop. Get the singular dessert to go: a foil wrapped packet of moist bread pudding with tart lemon sauce.
