One of my Richmond favorites – I've been all over Richmond trying all of the well-received restaurants, however, possibly my favorite Richmond restaurant is Athens Tavern. Located across from Starbucks and a street down from Curbside on Robinson, Athens Tavern is easily accessible.

A relatively small restaurant, like most Carytown haunts, Athens Tavern rarely has a wait (during rush hour on Friday and Saturday possibly). Only once, have I had to wait to be seated. Indeed, AT takes reservations so if wait time is an issue, it can be bypassed with ease. The interior decor is quaint and homey. The wait staff has the specials memorized by heart and never fail to go the extra mile for their customers.

The standard menu is classic Greek cuisine. However, the expansive list of specials, normally consisting of many mainstay dishes, adds much that may be lacking from their permanent menu. For both Greek foodies and non-Greek foodies, Athens Tavern has a dish for everyone. The specials include several seafood dishes along with additional traditional Greek entrees and appetizers. One dish in particular I love from the specials is a Lamb and Humus appetizer.

I recommend this restaurant to all my friends in Richmond. If you like Greek food, take some time and visit Athens Tavern. You won't regret it!

Decent food – I went here on a date with somone who is from Athens. He seems to enjoy the restuarant. I was extremely excited to try the place. The restaurant was quite small but had a nice feel about it. I loved my greek salad. My entree (a greek lasagne, cant remember the name) was pretty good. The only downside was that there were SOOOO many specials that sounded wonderful but after the waitress spent 5 min breathlessly speaking them to us in lightning speed, I couldnt remember what she said and opted just for something on the menu. I also did not like that we were seated by the door, so everytime someone came in or out, I was blasted with freezing cold air and wind.

Great hidden spot – I've been to this cute little neighborhood place a couple times, and it always seems to be packed with regulars. They've got this *crazy* specials menu each time we go: their waitresses have to memorize about a dozen items, including a lot of fish dishes. I've had the souvlaki and eggplant parmigiana, which were both very good. And the fried calamari is completely mouth-watering. Not fancy, certainly, but a great place to drop in at the end of a long day or late on weekends. A lot of the hip Main Street places seem overpriced to me -- this is a great alternative in the Fan area.
