Editorial Review for Cary Street Cafe – by Patrick Rooney
The Scene
As the front of a VW van bursts through one of the walls, the hippy in you breaks out of the suit and into tie-dye. Grateful Dead posters and memorabilia deck the walls and there's live music six nights a week. Plus, great veggie food. The surprisingly creative menu makes it worthwhile to get here before the band goes on, hang out on the porch and munch on a portobello philly or a hummus platter.
The Food
The summer squash cakes served over basmati rice and topped with a tomato and garlic sauce ($7.95) is the house specialty. The black bean burrito ($6.95) and the hummus sandwich are both can't-miss dishes. Reasonable yet unique.
