The Scene – As the front of a VW van bursts through one of the walls, the hippy in you breaks out of the suit and into tie-dye. Grateful Dead posters and memorabilia deck the walls and there's live music six nights a week. Plus, great veggie food. The surprisingly creative menu makes it worthwhile to get here before the band goes on, hang out on the porch and munch on a portobello philly or a hummus platter. – – The Food – The summer squash cakes served over basmati rice and topped with a tomato and garlic sauce ($7.95) is the house specialty. Don't know what they are doing
by deltaflygirl26 at Citysearch
Home ordered their food. Got the chicken philly and cole slaw plus wings. They package the coleslaw with the sub and my sub was drenched. The most disturbing was the wings tasted like they dipped it in MAPLE SYRUP.
Called the place and complained, and was told that's how they make the wings??? They offered to come back and buy the wings back (Were my wings bought back from someone else!?)
Was later called back and told it was a "mistake" and a replacement order was on they way. They now just taste like they were sitting beside maple syrup and not bathing in it.
The only responsible thing they did was wrap the pickle, which any responsible person would do.
First time customer, will never order from them again
Cool place to listen to live music and relax

I've enjoyed lunch at Cary Street a few times. Great food. The chicken wraps are delicious, hearty, and use fresh ingredients. The management brings in quality local music artists and bands to jam on various nights and it's always a good time. It's just a few blocks away from the main grouping of Cary Street clubs and restaurants, so parking is not a hassle. Not a big place. Not a manufactured 'Applebees' kinda place at all. This is a real neighborhood bar/tavern. I like it. If you're the kind of person who wants perfection and is afraid of getting your shoes dirty on a real city sidewalk, there are places in the mall that you may find more comfortable. Cary Street Cafe is on my default list of cool places to eat, chill, and enjoy live jams when I'm in Carytown.
These Guys Are Crooks

Last night, we dropped into Cry Street Cafe somewhere around 11:30 pm give or take a few minutes. The doorman charged us 7 bucks a piece even though the webite said it would be 5. We went ahead and paid the cover thinking the band was playing until 1 am. After a song and a half, the band was done. We were hustled to say the least. The doorman tried to justify it by saying the bar was open until 2 am.
