Don't order the grilled cheese. As expected the atmosphere was good. I love Fan restaurants! I ordered the Gourmet Grilled Cheese Sandwich. It was a huge disappointment. First of all it was burnt! Secondly, the cheese was tough and difficult to chew. It was definitely pricey @ $9.50. I don't think I will be going back. There are definitely better options in the Fan. Better food and better bang for your buck, like Starlite!
What a disappointment!. The much over-rated Salad Bar needs an overhaul! Have these people seen what Salad Bars are offering today? Tired lettuce and the weakest selection I've seen since the early 90's. In fact, the entire place feels like stepping back to the 50's. Service is fast and punctual. No one expects you to linger and the diners certainly don't. Couldn't get out of there fast enough! Ironically, there are several much better little bistros on the same street - hit those instead!
Worth all 5 stars. Wonderful experience! Food and service was great. This was my first time being there and it made a wonderful Valentine's day dinner. We will visit again really soon.
Probably my favorite resturaunt... anywhere..
The people who are writing bad reviews for this place are for the most part lying and likely here for no other reason but to troll people who have actually gone here. I discovered this place by chance when I used to walk to my landlord's office directly across the street to pay the rent. On discovering this place, it's just oh... so perfect. The atmosphere is very quaint, and depending on when you go there, it might be somewhat empty or very busy. I love the atmosphere, really. It's very local, and feels very homey.
The waiters and waitresses on the various times I've gone have all been very speedy in their service, and very polite and casual. I've been here when it's been fairly empty and when it's been completely packed. I never saw a difference in service either time, it was just very nice. One time even, when I went here with a friend and she ordered the chicken pot pie, the pie apparently according to the waitress looked slightly burnt (we couldn't tell from looking at it at least) and offered to take it back to the chef to get a new one without us even saying anything. Things like this are what stick out for me.
I've been here various times and the food has always been absolutely excellent. The burger especially, I constantly say is the best burger I've ever had anywhere ever. All the dishes have really been presented extremely well, and tasted completely fresh and absolutely delicious. You can't fake quality like this.
I'll be blunt. I don't like a lot about Richmond. One of the few things I really do like about it is the Fan, and goodness if anything gets me to come back to this city in the future, Strawberry Street Cafe will be one of those things. I really believe it's probably my favorite place ever really.
extremely terrible..
Anyone who has written a positive review about this restaurant is lying.
The staff are quick with you as if they have a million other things to do be doing. One of those things should be learning how to make scrambled eggs so they don't arrive on the table with a tinge of brown. SCRAMBLED EGGS PEOPLE! It was a particularly awful experience, never have I left a restaurant feeling worse than when I came in.
Not worth the money. Ate there a couple of times...felt very dark and dirty. The waitstaff was good but really, when you come to work at a resturant I think you need to wear a clean shirt and clean up your beard! The food was very average, I ordered the chicken salad sandwich on crossiant...taste just like I could make at home without spending $10 bucks! Wouldn't waste our time or money on that again......
Down from what it used to be. We've been dining there for years and our last dinner experience was not pleasant. The turkey burger was microwaved! Our crabcake sandwhich was cold. We usually go for brunch; perhaps it is best during these hours only. The only good part was the dependable tomato soup. We doubt we will go back, esp. since for 3 to dine it was $80 (2 had 1 glass of wine), not worth an unsatisfactory experience in today's economic climate.
Distinctly Richmond and best choice for casual dining..... The Strawberry St Cafe is a nice atmosphere and good food without breaking your wallet. You can enjoy an eclectic mix of goodies at the bathtub salad bar , as well as enjoy a menu with a lot of good entrees and sandwiches. The service is always friendly and polite, and the menu is priced very fairly for a restaurant as nice looking as this one. The place is very Richmond being that its located in the heart of the Fan, and has a feel or a local eatery. The only drawbacks are that the menu has stayed about the same for the last 20 years, and the acoustics are not the best (when it gets crowded the conversation can bounce off the tin ceiling). However, because its such a cozy place, you always feel at home.
Dive into the Bathtub .....Salad..
What a great neighborhood spot. Nice ambiance. Friendly waitstaff.
Loved the Bathtub Salad Bar, chocked full of delicious Greens, and homemade salads. It's all you can eat, so if you love a good salad, c'mon.
great friendly service best burgers in town.
This resturant has the fantastic combination of varied menu of quality food, great service and some real bargain specials. The soups, and the bathtub salad bar are features but for a meat and potato guy it has the best burgers and other choices to beat the band.
Great place!
