Editorial Review for Strawberry Street Cafe – by Carter Trumbo
The Scene
Combine a quaint side street in a historic part of town, add a well-rounded menu, and you'll keep 'em coming back. Just enough Fan funkiness mixed with basic American classics to keep everyone happy. Tables of office co-workers dine during the day, and a mixed crowd of tourists, dating couples, families and neighborhood regulars all cram in for casual dining at night.
The Food
It may be a "hippie cliche" but the house Bathtub Salad Bar (crammed with specialty salads, fresh greens, sprouts, seeds and fruit, $6.95 all you can eat) draws repeat customers. Chef Ryland's homemade soups also have a following (sun-dried tomato and onion bisque, black bean, Chesapeake crab and broccoli). You'll see special touches at night. The chicken pot pie is made with all white meat chicken and the Southwestern marinated pork chops are topped with a tomato chutney. And the final cliche? You can still get a damned good quiche (Chesapeake crabmeat and Swiss cheese).

The Strawberry St Cafe is a nice atmosphere and good food without breaking your wallet. You can enjoy an eclectic mix of goodies at the bathtub salad bar , as well as enjoy a menu with a lot of good entrees and sandwiches. The service is always friendly and polite, and the menu is priced very fairly for a restaurant as nice looking as this one. The place is very Richmond being that its located in the heart of the Fan, and has a feel or a local eatery. The only drawbacks are that the menu has stayed about the same for the last 20 years, and the acoustics are not the best (when it gets crowded the conversation can bounce off the tin ceiling). However, because its such a cozy place, you always feel at home.
Pros: good southern style service, warm atmosphere
Cons: acoustics are muddy

What a great neighborhood spot. Nice ambiance. Friendly waitstaff. Loved the Bathtub Salad Bar, chocked full of delicious Greens, and homemade salads. It's all you can eat, so if you love a good salad, c'mon.
