Editorial Review for Caffe di Pagliacci – by Patrick Rooney
The Scene
Softly lit without casting diners into darkness, Caffe di Pagliacci's ambience is upscale and intimate, yet attitude-free. Two dining rooms offer a choice of decor and atmosphere: wood-paneled walls on the first floor and a hip, urban cafe upstairs. The ambience is best described as "casual cloth napkin." While shorts and a T-shirt are fine, this is date night after all, so clean up with something khaki.
The Food
Chef/owner Robert DeCapri's long-time specialties are homemade pasta and sausage, as well as milk-fed veal. He's been doing it for almost 30 years. For the carnivore in you try the coscio di vitello farcito or the bistecca alla paglicacci. The tortellini gnocchi al pesto is beautiful, soft and chewy. Lasagna or fettuccini alfredo are also molto bene.

I can't understand why this place keeps appearing in 'best of' lists - been twice - had two disappointing meals - service was ok, but unremarkable - had bad seating twice.

This place highly recommended. The food was incredibly average. Very bland and uneventful. Portions were minute. Pasta was straight out of a box. Our poor waitress was swamped so she rarely came to the table. Wine was good. Will never eat here again unless someone else is picking up tab and I am dying of hunger.
Pros: ambience
Cons: food, service
