does not deserve even one star.
Please do not make our mistake and try this place. It stinks of mildewy carpet (a sure sign the owners stopped investing), the service was atrocious (manager barely cared when we told him that we waited forty minutes for our food and that it came out cold), and the food was tasteless.
Do not make our mistake and get drawn in by the location and neat exterior.

Polished professionals flock to this upscale Shockoe Slip location for perfectly prepared but Americanized versions of Chinese favorites..
The Scene
The place is packed with the Main Street financial crowd during lunch hour, and diners can expect more of the same at night.
The Food
You'll get fresh, properly prepared versions of traditional Chinese dishes. With three different locations, the Peking fills a need for quality, consistency and conservatism. The Peking dumplings and egg flower with corn soup are sure bets for starters. Crispy duck (half a Long Island roast duck) is the best value on the menu ($11.50) and one of the best versions in town. The Peking Imperial, their "most exquisite dish" (chunks of lobster and filet mignon sauteed with mushrooms and vegetables in two sauces) would be an impressive choice for doing a deal over dinner. What to skip: Conservative Richmonders still seem to love it, but the Sunday lunch buffet ($9.95) will bore more jaded appetites.

It's not bad, at all.
I don't think the other reviewers descriptions were fair. I arrived at the restaurant and was seated promptly. The server arrived at my table with complimentary hot tea and Chinese crackers. The Egg Flower Corn Soup (egg drop) was just right. I ordered the pan-fried noodles with chicken. Another reviewer noted that there wasn't enough chicken -- I feel that the portion was fair-sized (the meal filled me up). I found the dish to be very tasty and would recommend it to any reader. For the soup, entree, and a soft drink, I left there having spent just $18 including tax and tip. The only thing l thought was below average was the level of service. While my server was speedy, he didn't attend to me too much. But in terms of speed, he got it just right. If you want good Chinese, this place will work for you,
