Red Door is family. The Red Door is very personable and GREAT FOOD! I love their rolls and chocolate chip cookies. I always recommend this restaurant and know of lots of people who also love it. Go eat there, you will not be upset!!!
Like eating at home. This is one of my favorite restaurants to eat at. I have been going there for 7 years sometimes up to 3-4 times a week and have never had a bad meal yet. The owners are friendly and care about their customers and know most of them by name. They treat you great and always make sure that you are satisfied. I too, enjoy their variety of meals and desserts and also the atmosphere. A great place to go and eat and if you haven't given it a try, do so. You will not regret it, I promise!!!!
This is a fantastic local restaurant.
This is a fantastic local restaurant. Whether you work downtown or just live around the corner, there is a great mix of people there and everyone is made to feel at home. We make this a regular stop at least once per week or more. The specials are great. Get the home-made house dressing for your salad, one of the best I've had. The menu has a great variety of American, Greek, and Italian. Get a sandwich on one of their home-made rolls with a side of chips or fries, or order the fish special with 2 veggie side dishes. I'm picky about my tea, and I've never had to send back the un-sweet tea here.. it's always fresh and re-fills are frequent and free.
If for some reason you actually have room for dessert, try a home-made piece of cake or just buy one of the huge home-made cookies when you check out.
This is a family owned restaurant that cares deeply for their customers and their staff. If for some reason I can't decide where I want to eat, the Red Door is always my choice no matter how many times I've been there that week. I always feel at home there. I have some work associates from outside of Richmond, and they always ask to go back to the Red Door for lunch when in town.
Give it a try and order a nice pasta dish, a cold sandwich, or one of the daily specials, you'll love it.
POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE. I just came from the Red Door for lunch. I called in an order for a chicken tender salad which was $7.25 plus tax. When I checked the bag I had a few pieces of lettuce, 3 cucumbers and a green pepper! WHAT!!! I asked the owener several times did she expect me to pay $8 for this. After receiving blank stares I requested my money back and was told I could not get my money back. After counting backwards several times I requested it again and was told that because I was paying for another persons food that I had to give her half the money in cash! WHAT!!! I asked for the whole order to be voided and when she did, she banned me from the restaurant. So you know that I filed a complaint with the 3 B's(they blocked me from using the technical name).....seeing as though they have menu's without a phone number listed and they were not listed with the 3 B's(not surprising). Some locals love this restaurant but I've only noticed mostly white americans eating in there. Maybe she does like blacks, I did see an older black male in the kitchen from time to time and have spoken to him as I walked to the bank and as he swept the trash in front of the building! PORTIONS VERY BAD, CUSTOMER SERVICE IS POOR, and food is OVER-PRICED! Try STEVE'S RESTAURANT right up the block, WONDERFUL FOOD, and they have WONDERFUL PRICES! Sorry for any typo's .....
A perfect example of inspiration coming from strange places..
The Scene
A lunchtime favorite, Red Door is a great place to grab a quick meal downtown and eavesdrop on the business being discussed around you. In fact, more than one scoop has been generated by a reporter from the newspaper across the street who "accidentally" overheard a deal taking place between two local heavyweights. Despite the upscale clientele that frequent Red Door, the interior is decidedly unassuming.
The Food
Its Greek/Italian/American fare is not especially creative or unexpected, but it does provide those needing a midday pick-me-up with a hearty meal and generous portions to restore their energy. Daily specials usually include seafood and pasta dishes that are worth checking out. During peak hours, expect a short wait; the result is well worth it.
