Excellent food!. I'm in Midlothian on business from FL. I always try to find something "local" for dinner rather than one of the chains. I write reviews where they are due.

I found Crab Louie's Seafood Tavern online - the menu looked great so I figured I would give it a try. It is situated on Midlothian Turnpike in an historic building. I already had an idea from the online menu of what I wanted. I had the Butternut Crab Bisque and it was to die for. The soup had a touch of curry and the crab was generous. Loved it! They offered homemade relishes and breads - all that I tried were yummy. The included salad was nicely done rather than just a salad mix. For dinner I had the Crab Cake & Latke combination. The crab cake was CRAB - not a lot of filler as many places offer. The latke was very interesting (crabmeat, shrimp and lobster mixed with onions and fresh herbs broiled and topped with a sweet red pepper honey sauce) and delicious as well. I finished with Chocolate Brandy Mousee (yes dessert as it sounded so good). It was delicious although a little heavy - I'm used to mousse being very light.

I'm here for another night & I think I'll try it again. Yes, it was that good. So, if you are in the area & haven't tried Crab Louie's I highly recommend it!

Best Seafood in Richmond. I have been to Crab Louie's various times. Each time I order something different, crab cakes, scallops, shrimp, crabs... Each time I was extremely happy with my meal. Their relishes (3) are light and very tasty, the bread is always great. You can even buy a loaf to take home. The breads are so unique, zucchini and corn, pumpkin, carrot, pineapple, tomato? Their menu is seasonal, so you are always seeing something new. Their home fresh soups are exquisite.

I have ZERO complaints. The wait staff, bartenders, hostess are always very accommodating. It's a great place for an intimate dinner, business meal, or family gathering.

YES, they have crabs.... I've had crab cakes and the crab sautee-which is quite good. It is lump crabmeat cooked with butter and minimal seasoning. Some of the sides seem to be a little lackluster, however. They have the appearance and taste of being shaken out of a Sysco systems bag. The complimentary breads and relishes presented at the beginning of the meal are always great. The seafood seems fresh. I've never been able to make my mind up concerning the decor. A historic building with h i t and miss furnishings.

Don't go if you actually want crabs.. I can't say I've actually dined here, so I can't answer to the non-crab dishes. I called to make sure they had crabs at Crab Louie's and they didn't. Why isn't this place called Louie's?

Richmond's premier crabcakes. Great crabcakes, latkes, homemade breads, seafood dishes. there is nothing to complain about. This place had a mostly older clientele when I went, and it can be pricey, but you get what you pay for here. Highly recommended. It was worth driving to the southside for.

With crab cakes more succulent than a shady day in the Southside, this restaurant is a treasure from the sea.. The Scene
Anyone who claims that Midlothian isn't food-friendly must not know about Crab Louie's, a seafood masterpiece housed in a historic old home. In fact, diners who can ignore the surrounding strip mall can nestle into the nostalgia of the house, listening to the creaky floors and casting a wish-it-were-chilly-enough eye on the fireplace.

The Food
If you can, ignore the history--because the food is where the true beauty begins. This restaurant can create the perfect crab cake--slightly sweet with a bit of zest--and you'll suddenly wonder why you don't live by the sea. Other dishes featuring fresh fish, scallops and shrimp can offer some variety, but take second stage. Don't indulge in a great dinner without topping it off with dessert. Best bets: the bananas Foster or the chocolate mocha torte.
